Continuing to grow

There is enough for everybody’s need, but not for everybody’s greed
Gandhi
The world has enough food to feed everyone. The problem is that it is not distributed equitably. Some of us have far too much, while the majority of our family has far too little.
United Nations estimates that the cost to completely end world hunger, along with related diseases, is about $195 billion a year.
It’s a great deal of money. But, it isn’t as large an amount as you might first imagine. One way to put $195 million into perspective is to realize that the United States spends nearly $2 billion a week for the war in Iraq.
So, even though $195 million seems like an enormous amount of money, its not beyond our reach. We could end the scourge of hunger if we had the desire to do so.
My vision is that we will get to the place where we all realize that allowing children to starve in a world of plenty is morally unacceptable. At one time we turned a blind eye to the vile practice of slavery. But, we changed. We grew, and slavery was abolished.
Let’s continue to change. Let’s continue to grow. Let’s abolish hunger.
