question for the day

The sad truth is all of us know the answer. And it’s a sobering reflection on how we have failed as a nation. Now, we will have to live, and possibly die, with the consequences.

The sooner this Liar-in-Chief can be legally removed from office the sooner sanity will return to or nation. And with his ratings at an all-time low and still dropping, hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

Robert Mueller’s team of special investigators is closing in. It’s only a matter of time before the truth of the Big Cheeto’s collusion with Russia and the depth of his corruption will come to light and he can be seen as the traitor he is,

#BLOTUS and his Flying Monkeys

Earlier this morning I read that Robert Mueller’s team has added over a dozen new attorneys to help dig deeper into the malfeasance and corruption at the heart of Trump’s circle. Now, the president’s personal lawyer, following the wise move of Vice President Pence, has hired another lawyer to represent him. When lawyers hire lawyers they know it is about to get real.

Trump is single-handedly attempting to kick-start the economy by providing more jobs for lawyers. I don’t care how many flying monkeys the #Blotus lets fly, the Hounds of Justice are coming after him, and he can feel them getting ever closer.

Not just a coincidence…

defining characteristics of Facism

Trump:

If it walks like a duck, and if it quacks like a duck…then it’s time to make some decisions about whether you really like listening to ducks.

walking thru a cow pasture

If you have ever had the pleasure of spending time on a farm or ranch you know what a cow pasture looks and smells like. If you have ever walked through a cow pasture you have ample evidence that it is a home for cows. And, if you are like the majority of us, you avoid stepping in the ample piles of evidence.

Look around, my friends.  The evidence is piling up. Take a deep breath. That pungent aroma is the smell of fresh, still steaming Fascism. You recognize the evidence of cows in a cow pasture. Recognize the evidence of Fascism. Once you step in it,  the smell cannot be removed.

power, propaganda, and the loss of freedom

I recently allowed myself the pleasure of rereading Orwell’s 1984. I am so glad I did since we are now seeing it unfold right before us. We are actually entering into the virtual reality of living in the 1984 world.

Animal Farm is next on my reread list. Like 1984, I know I will enjoy the book again. And also like 1984, I know I am going to see lessons that are reflected in the world in which we now find ourselves.

I want to reread some of these classics while I still have the freedom to do so. The way things are going that might not be possible in the near future.

BLOTUS has been in office less than a full week, and the fourth estate is already “the opposition” and “the enemy.” First silence the press. Then silence free speech. Lie, lie, lie and keep on repeating the lies until even the absurd begins to sound reasonable.

And in the end, do whatever is necessary to eliminate dissent.

corrupting influence

“[T]here remains [in some parts of the country] a strong bias towards the old error, that without some sort of alliance or coalition between Govt. & Religion neither can be duly supported. Such indeed is the tendency to such a coalition, and such its corrupting influence on both parties, that the danger cannot be too carefully guarded against.”
― James Madison, James Madison: Writings

Madison’s words are as true today as when he originally penned them almost two centuries ago. Our nation’s founders separated government and religion to guard against this “corrupting influence on both parties.”

Today we are living with the results of not defending against this old error. Madison warned us to ever guard more closely against this unholy alliance.  We should have heeded his words.

Over 80% of white evangelical Christians voted for Donald Trump to be our country’s next president. They knowingly agreed with, and endorsed Trump’s clearly stated anti-Christian values.

This is a clear and present danger. The majority of those voting in this election claiming to follow Jesus Christ cast their vote for a lying, racist, fear-mongering, bigot.  They supported a xenophobic, bullying, braggart who is the antithesis of the love of Jesus Christ reflected in the gospels.

How and why this happened should ring alarms for leaders throughout the faith community. When this large a percentage of “believers” abandon the teachings of Jesus to vote for hate and fear, it is a statement that something is drastically and critically awry.

Personally, I see this as a failure of leadership, itself. There has been a significant lack of courage to address the deep divisive issues of our society from the pulpit. Christian leaders have not led by example, and have played it safe and “made nice” rather than confront un-Christian values in our congregations.

And so now, one cannot tell the believers from the nonbelievers without a program. We have met the enemy and they are us.
