Is there anything we need more at this moment than courageous leaders? The upcoming election is our opportunity to choose the direction of our nation will go. My prayer continues to be that we choose courageous leadership over greed, lies, racism, hatred and evil.
“The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly as necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
This quote by President Roosevelt was a part of the 17 minute retirement speech delivered to his colleagues yesterday by Republican Senator, Jeff Flake of Arizona. He basically said he was retiring because of the coarseness of the leadership of our nation, and that he could no longer be complicit in the undermining of the core values that has made our country great.
I salute the Senator for his courage and applaud his public denouncement of the crude, boorish, and destructive methodology of #BLOTUS. More of our national leaders need to have the strength of character to be openly critical of the current President and his outrageous, infantile, and morally indefensible behavior. Silence in the face of the actions of this president is not only unpatriotic, but in the words of Roosevelt, “morally treasonable to the American public.”
The President of the United States has the right to fire any appointee he desires. That is his prerogative.
What #BLOTUS does have the right to do, however, is to lie to the public about the reason for firing the Attorney General. The truth is clear, as are the facts. Sally Gates defied an immoral and illegal presidential order. #BLOTUS axed her for standing up against his Muslim ban.
Good for her. She will not be the last victim of the vindictive and unstable person now consolidating his power of all of us. But she has demonstrated for the entire world the bullying tactics and the pathological lying for which Trump is so well known.
Thank you, Sally Gates. Your courage to stand firm in the face of wrong is an inspiration to all of us.
Thank you, Sally Yates for doing the right thing in the right way at the right time. All patriotic citizens of the United States owe you a debt of gratitude.
You took immediate action to uphold the traditional values of the United States. Your action in defiance of #BLOTUS was a true demonstration of faithfully defending equality and freedom. I applaud your strength of character, and commend you for defending the Constitution.
May we all be inspired by this courageous lady who has acted in the best tradition of our nation. And may we all follow her example in standing up against the unbridled bigotry and continuing attacks against our Constitution. United we stand.
