prayer for comprehension

Today is yet another perfect day that You have made for us. Thank you for such a glorious creation. Help us take the time to properly appreciate the beauty that surrounds us and the perfection of the world You have formed.

Forgive us for the brazen contempt with which we treat such magnificence and splendor. Forgive us for our lack of caring and our refusal to be good stewards of this gift that sustains the entire human family. Forgive us for our willful wastefulness. Open our eyes that we might see the world as a home that we are wantonly destroying.

Grant us the grace necessary to pull our family together. Help us treat one another with the same love and respect we all seek and deserve. Allow us to fully comprehend that we are all connected, that all creation is one.

And then empower us to start cleaning house. Let each of us do whatever is in our power to make our perfect planet a place of sublime beauty, free of all the ugly and far too visible signs of misuse and lacking of caring. Help each of us walk far more gently and grant us the grace to treat our planet with the respect and reverence such a gift deserves. Amen

a prayer for new vision

Thank you, O God, for the wonders of your creation. Thank you for the perfection of the world which your grace has provided for us. Thank you for your constant and sustaining presence in our lives. Yet, even as we praise you for your goodness and your mercy, we must ask your forgiveness, as well.

Forgive us for taking your perfect creation for granted. Forgive us for wantonly destroying the irreplaceable  beauty that surrounds us. Forgive us for  our unrelenting greed for more and better while ignoring the cries of our family who have little or nothing.

Grant us new vision, O God. Open our eyes wide enough to see our world even as you do. May our hearts be melted with the grief you feel for those that are forced to needlessly suffer want in a world of plenty. Help us to love each other, even as you love us. And may you so fill us with the miracle-working power of the Holy Spirit that our hunger for justice  would force us to act on behalf those of our family whose hunger for bread overshadows all else.

Let your justice fill the earth, O Lord. And grant each of us the grace to be a part in making it happen. In your Son’s name. Amen

getting the record straight

Let’s get the record straight: God don’t make no junk.

According to the account of creation in Genesis, God created the world perfectly. We read in Genesis 1:31 that, “God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.”

God don’t make no junk. That means that there is no reason for even one child to suffer from hunger in a world perfectly created. That is the world in which we live.

Do not think, even for a nano-second, that 25,000 die every day from hunger and hunger-related causes because there is not enough food for everyone.  Nothing could be further from the truth. Let’s get the record straight. There are plenty of resources.

Here is the truth. These are the facts taken directly from Wold Hunger: Twelve Myths, by Frances Moore Lappé. I quote:

The world today produces enough grain alone to provide every human being on the planet with thirty-five hundred calories a day. That’s enough to make most people fat! And this estimate does not even count many other commonly eaten foods–vegetables, beans, nuts, root crops, fruits, grass-fed meats, and fish. In fact, if all foods are considered together, enough is available to provide at least 4.3 pounds of food per person a day. That includes two and a half pounds of grain, beans, and nuts; about a pound of fruits and vegetables; and nearly a pound of meat, milk, and eggs.

No child dies from hunger because there is not enough food. God created the world perfectly.

There’s more than enough food for our entire human family. We just need to share. God don’t create no junk.
