I do not give a damn what laws are on the books. Anyone not condemning such treatment of those seeking protection and asylum in our country is complicit with such blatant hatred and racism.
Trump’s greatness is the greatness of Nazi Germany, Stalin’s Russia, or any other dictator you care to name. There’s a vast difference between greatness and evil. And perpetrating evil never leads to greatness…never.
Editorial cartoonist, Ted St. Godard got fired for this cartoon. He was fired for doing what editorial cartoonists are paid to do. This is yet one more direct attack on the freedom of the press.
I applaud Ted St. Godard for keeping a bright light shining on the immorality and racist policies of the Trump administration. More of us need to do the same.
Today we celebrate Father’s Day. And thousands of parents, both mothers and fathers, are having their children ripped from them. Trump’s America is no longer a place of safety for those fleeing persecution or violence. We are now a place where unspeakable cruelty is perpetrated through immoral, racist (and I would add, illegal) policies designed to deter those seeking protection.
If ripping families apart and child concentration camps are necessary to make America great again, maybe we need to redefine greatness. I grow ever more ashamed of my elected leaders for their complicity in supporting this corrupt administration
Both the Jewish and the Christian faiths makes it clear that we are to welcome the stranger, and provide special care for the weak among us. The current polices of intentionally splitting up families, especially of those seeking asylum in our country, are profoundly wrong.
Regardless of the purpose of such policies, ripping children away from their parents and detaining them in mass incarceration centers cannot be justified. Where is the outrage from people of faith at such intentional trauma to innocents?
Far too much of evangelical Christianity has become a cult of blind praise and support of the current president’s golden calf racist policies. It is time to again ask WWJD. It certainly would not be to split children from their mothers and put them into kennels.
Not everyone likes the truth. And not everyone will admit that documented facts are real. And there are some among us who refuse to acknowledge reality, even as they are stepping in a big pile of it.
Having traveled to, and having worked in over 100 countries, many of them dictatorships, I know what dictators look like. I know how dictators act. I know how they speak. That is why I fear this new US administration.
This is not about Democrat vs. Republican or red vs. blue. This is about the future of our country. I am not calling #BLOTUS a dictator. But, I am begging everyone to open their eyes and look at reality.
If it looks like a duck, if it walks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck, there’s a better than average chance it’s not a kitten.
We pray to the great Spiritual Power in which we live and move and have our being. We pray that we may at all times keep our minds open to new ideas and shun dogma; that we may grow in our understanding of the nature of all living beings and our connectedness with the natural world; that we may become ever more filled with generosity of spirit and true compassion and love for all life; that we may strive to heal the hurts that we have inflicted on nature and control our greed for material things, knowing that our actions are harming our natural world and the future of our children; that we may value each and every human being for who he is, for who she is, reaching to the spirit that is within, knowing the power of each individual to change the world. We pray for social justice, for the alleviation of the crippling poverty that condemns millions of people around the world to lives of misery – hungry, sick, and utterly without hope. We pray for the children who are starving, who are condemned to homelessness, slave labor, and prostitution, and especially for those forced to fight, to kill and torture even members of their own family. We pray for the victims of violence and war, for those wounded in body and for those wounded in mind. We pray for the multitudes of refugees, forced from their homes to alien places through war or through the utter destruction of their environment. We pray for suffering animals everywhere, for an end to the pain caused by scientific experimentation, intensive farming, fur farming, shooting, trapping, training for entertainment, abusive pet owners, and all other forms of exploitation such as overloading and overworking pack animals, bull fighting, badger baiting, dog and cock fighting and so many more.We pray for an end to cruelty, whether to humans or other animals, for an end to bullying, and torture in all its forms. We pray that we may learn the peace that comes with forgiving and the strength we gain in loving; that we may learn to take nothing for granted in this life; that we may learn to see and understand with our hearts; that we may learn to rejoice in our being. We pray for these things with humility; We pray because of the hope that is within us, and because of a faith in the ultimate triumph of the human spirit; We pray because of our love for Creation, and because of our trust in God. We pray, above all, for peace throughout the world.
