senseless and dangerous

Written from a prison cell while awaiting his execution, this short treatise, “On Stupidity,” rings far too clearly despite the passing years. For those with ears to hear, we need to recognize that the political climate within our country is being manipulate by those that appeal to the basest emotions and fears of the least educated among us.

Yes, we are living in a dangerous time. Yes, decisions are being made daily that seem senseless on the surface and even evil when more closely examined. But arguing with most of those supporting the present agenda isn’t the answer.

As Bonhoeffer concludes, trying to persuade the stupid person with reason and fact is both “senseless and dangerous.”

#BLOTUS: a one-man crisis

I can not remember any presidency in my seventy years that has been so dysfunctional, and such a total embarrassment to our country. What other of our nation’s leaders has been so unable to tell the truth? bragged about being able get away with murder? laughed about being a sexual predator? completed ignored the Constitution? wasted so much on vacations so fast? continually attacked the press? could not stop whining?

The real story isn’t the leaks. The real story is that the #BLOTUS is a one-man rolling crisis.  He is frighteningly dangerous to the health, well being, and future of our nation. He is causing great concern, even alarm among our allies and has made the United States a laughingstock around the world.

And the backstory is even worse. His appeal to the lowest common denominator points out the serious, even fatal flaws in our society. Those supporting him are so wedded to his bigotry and clearly racist agenda that they are willing to ignore the truth.

The real story is that this president is a total disaster.

my dirt is better than your dirt

Educated and rational folks need to remember this, especially in the coming days. The United States is a wonderful and blessed country. We all know that.

But we need to always remember that “God so loved the world…” Our nation, as blessed as it is, is no closer to God’s heart than any other.

There is a real likelyhood over the next couple of years that our leaders are going to attempt to stir up in us a sense of nationalism that will be both ugly and dangerous. When that happens we need to fight against a false patriotism and national pride that promotes our dirt is better that other peoples.
