thinking of freedom

4th of july quotes

I am celebrating the Fourth this year while in London. I’ve been away from the US a number of times on the Fourth of July, and I am always struck by the influence our independence and love of freedom has made on the rest of the world.

This year, however, I think it is a good day to ponder how we are now squandering the sacrifices of so many who gave their all that we could be an example of all that is good and right. I truly love my country. Yet, I have never feared for her as I do today. We stand by in abject silence as the true values of our great nation are being extinguished one by one.

do something wonderful

Isn’t this our call as people of faith? We are to live in the love which has first been shown to us. Reflecting that love to others is what life is all about.

If we demonstrate Christ’s love to all those we meet (and the key word here is demonstrate), there are some who won’t understand, but there are others who will not only soak up that love but also share it.  Do something wonderful this week.  Do something that demonstrates the love that we call Emmanuel.

the power of your example

It’s never been about what we say we believe. In reality, what we say matters little. All of us have our opinions, even if many of us are silent and never verbally express our feelings.

What truly matters is how we live. What we do has power, real power. There is eloquence in action that speaks louder than anything we may say.

We need to care enough to take action. When that happens we will begin changing the world.

Talking about ending hunger and poverty is good. But it’s not enough. Let’s use 2016 to come together and  continue to set the example of how to end hunger in our lifetime.
