This is an unfair and biased question. Most of us realize that the #BLOTUS cannot even handle the TV remote. He’s not competent to even be seen in public most days. If he handles North Korea as he handles his family and staff we all need to start digging new fallout shelters.
The only thing more confusing than how the #BLOTUS got into office is how he stays there. Is there no limit to the blind allegiance the GOP base will offer this family? Maybe he did actually tell the truth (once) when he bragged about being able to shoot down someone in broad daylight and still have the support of his base.
For eight years we have been blessed with a scandal-free First Family. I, for one, will miss President Obama’s quiet dignity and deep strength in the face of all the hatred and opposition he faced from the moment he took the oath of office.
History will bear record to his accomplishments. He has exemplified true servant leadership and has led our nation with intelligence, wit, humor and true humility.
We now enter a new era where the new leader of our nation thrives on lies and scandals, cannot communicate a clear thought and reeks of racism, xenophobia and bigotry. I, along with most of the world, am holding my breath as the United States begins a perilous journey led by an ego larger than the nation, itself.
Farewell, President Obama, and God bless you. You are already missed.
I readily admit I am not a presidential historian. But, that said, I cannot remember any President-Elect in the history of our nation that has been less prepared and more unfit to take over the reigns of our nation’s leadership.
It matters that he is a pathological liar, the BLOTUS. It matters that he refuses to rid himself of all the conflicts of interest. It matters that he ignores or mocks the US security community, but lauds Julian Assange. It matters that he is OK with Russia interfering with our political processes. It matters that he has installed his family as an inner circle of advisors and filled his Cabinet with Wall Street tycoons. It matters that he is constantly attacking the press.
It matters. It all matters. And on January 20th we will officially enter one of the most shameful eras of our nation’s history.
On Maundy Thursday Pope Francis washed and kissed the feet of a dozen refugees as a part of Holy Week observances. Those whose feet he washed were not all Muslim, but also included a Coptic Christian and a Hindu.
This is another powerful demonstration of faithfulness to our Lord’s teachings as well as true servant leadership. Real leadership is not about bluster and self promotion. It’s about humility and serving others.
If those of us who call ourselves followers of Christ would ever understand this we would live in such a way that we might live as one family and have a honest chance for peace on earth.
How easy it is to forget that business, work, recreation and all our social interaction isn’t the real purpose of our lives. We get caught up in the details and forget that to truly live we need to give ourselves for others.
The Dalai Lama is right. All of us have a thousand opportunities every day to make a real difference in the lives of those most in need, Each of us has the time to make another’s life a little bit better and maybe even a lot better.
We can end hunger in our lifetime. We can change the world forever. It just takes the recognition that we are called to help others, and that despite our superficial differences, we are truly one family.
Mother Teresa once said that true love doesn’t measure, it just gives without counting the cost. I totally agree with her. And what a perfect time of the year to accept and celebrate the incarnation of that love.
As we draw ever closer to the day Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, my prayer is that all of us, whatever our spiritual path may be, may come to the place where we find that true and perfect love that casts our fear. I pray that we go through that open that door which leads to peace and justice for all, and that we finally realize that we are all one gloriously disfunctional family.
