Washington Quote: Free people should have sufficient arms and ammo to... | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

This is a powerful quote from our nation’s founding president, and it means many different things to those who read it. I would love to see your comments on what it means to you.

At the time it was written, civilian arms and ammunition were almost exactly the same as the arms used by the military. The major exception, of course, was artillery. The same is definitely not the case today.

The argument against assault weapons in the hands of civilians seems to fly in the face of Washington’s thoughts on the matter. How can a free people maintain their independence from a government using assault weapons if the citizens are not allowed to possess weapons of equal power?

Again, I would love to see a rational dialogue on the subject. Any comments would be appreciated.

destroyng the rich doesn’t help the poor

Happy 4th of July! I pray that you  have a blessed Independence Day.

I came across this quote in one of my emails this morning. Although I agree with the sentiments, the quote was ascribed to Abraham Lincoln, which I seriously doubt. Anyone know who is actually responsible for these words?

“You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot lift the wage earner up

by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man

by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage

by taking away people’s initiative and independence.

You cannot help people permanently by doing for them,

what they could and should do for themselves.”
