True Christian discipleship means faithfulness in living like the one we follow. I do not remember anywhere in the Gospels where Jesus berates, castigates, or condemns anyone for their race or sexual orientation.
I do remember him saying multiple times that we are to love each other more than we love ourselves. Maybe our spirituality should be determined more by how much we love rather than all the things we condemn…just a thought
As sad as this seems to be, it is actually worse. Today there would be those in the crowd who would be heckling Jesus and accusing him of socialism, pandering to the poor for votes, and questioning both his ethics and his motives.
And the saddest part is that much (if not most) of this criticism would be coming from those claiming to follow him…right wing evangelicals.
I find it frightening that there are far too many who see Trump as a savior. Since the Liar-in-Chief demonstrates his blatant opposition to Christ with every vindictive breath, every statement and every action, this is beyond sad. Dangerous is the word that comes to mind.
Evangelicals like Jerry Falwell, Jr. and Franklin Graham support this lying, greedy, racist, adulterer with the full knowledge of who and what he is. They don’t care. White, Right-wing Evangelicals adore him because #BLOTUS has “blessed” their own bigotry, fear and hatred.
The bottom line is one can worship anyone or anything they desire. But…I do not think that anyone can worship Jesus as Lord and also worship the “golden pig.” The two are mutually exclusive.
For all the evangelical right who still have the audacity to support Trump while calling themselves disciples of Christ, this hopefully will show you how far from being faithful followers you really are. Trump’s values are diametrically opposed to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
You can follow one or the other…not both. Your choice is clear as to where your values truly are.
How is this possible? The answer is simple. Most of our churches are filled with the same brand of racism, fear, hatred and bigotry as demonstrated by the Liar-In-Chief. What most white evangelicals profess is diametrically opposed to what they actually believe.
Jesus Christ, an undocumented, nonwhite refugee, would not be welcome in some white evangelical churches…and not allowed in most.
