True Christian discipleship means faithfulness in living like the one we follow. I do not remember anywhere in the Gospels where Jesus berates, castigates, or condemns anyone for their race or sexual orientation.
I do remember him saying multiple times that we are to love each other more than we love ourselves. Maybe our spirituality should be determined more by how much we love rather than all the things we condemn…just a thought
For all the evangelical right who still have the audacity to support Trump while calling themselves disciples of Christ, this hopefully will show you how far from being faithful followers you really are. Trump’s values are diametrically opposed to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
You can follow one or the other…not both. Your choice is clear as to where your values truly are.
Both the Jewish and the Christian faiths makes it clear that we are to welcome the stranger, and provide special care for the weak among us. The current polices of intentionally splitting up families, especially of those seeking asylum in our country, are profoundly wrong.
Regardless of the purpose of such policies, ripping children away from their parents and detaining them in mass incarceration centers cannot be justified. Where is the outrage from people of faith at such intentional trauma to innocents?
Far too much of evangelical Christianity has become a cult of blind praise and support of the current president’s golden calf racist policies. It is time to again ask WWJD. It certainly would not be to split children from their mothers and put them into kennels.
