GOP tax plan: test failed

Was just talking about the difference between the Roosevelts and people like William Randolph Hearst. The Roosevelts used their wealth to make the world a better place, as opposed to building a big mansion and filling it with European art.

Maybe this should be the test of tax reform as well…just a thought. From all I’ve seen, the Republican Tax Bill does just the opposite.

We really don’t need to”help” our already profitable corporations and the wealthiest of the wealthy in our country. This tax plan doesn’t move us forward as a nation. It rewards the rich and ignores those needing help the most.

The Republican tax plan doesn’t make our country great, and it has nothing to do with progress. It is simply another demonstration of those in power paying back their wealthy backers. It is shameful at best, and morally repugnant to the core.

when lady liberty goes under

We all know that climate change cannot be real, right? It’s all just another scare tactic cooked up by progressives to keep honest business folks from making a decent profit.

And doesn’t the “good book” tell us that God created MAN to have control over the earth? That means (according to the #BLOTUS), that we can grab whatever we want. Finally, we finally have a leader who can demonstrate the good life.

a special kind of courage

What would our world look like if more of us had the special kind of courage lifted up by Queen Elizabeth? My fear is that far too many of us refuse to stand up for our convictions. We refuse to speak out for what we know is right, for what we know is the decent alternative.

We make the choice to be quiet, to remain silent in the face of immorality and evil. We allow those with power and riches to make choices and take actions that cause harm to millions of our human family and to rape our planet for greed and profit.

That could change if we had the special kind of courage spoken of by the queen. If we all stood up and made our voices heard we could have a world with justice for all and not just for the rich and powerful. But, that takes a special kind of courage.

no enemies, only business opportunities & body bags

I once had the opportunity to spend some time with the president of the West Sahara people. We met in the Sahara desert at a time when his nation was at war to regain the land they were driven from years earlier.

One of the memories I have of that conversation which I’ve never forgotten was hearing that he would not accept the presidency until the laws were changed to allow the president to take part in combat (he had already been wounded several times before being elected), and that the law would also demand that every elected official must serve one month a year in direct operations.

I cannot help thinking that such enlightened thinking might slow down our own elected officials’ ¬†casual attitude and easy acceptance of the real bottom line of war.
