No President in our history has lied as much, as often, as badly as this man. Now he is openly endorsing another sexual predator for the US Senate. There is seemingly no limits to his shame, and no end to the harm he is willing to do to get his way. His impeachment cannot come too soon.
Sometimes it can be difficult to get our heads around the massive injustice of the GOP tax plan. The numbers are staggering, and the sheer immorality of the Republican leaders is beyond comprehension.
The illustration above is an attempt to give a graphic picture of the reality of what’s going down. #BLOTUS and his Republican cohorts are desperate for a win, and they are obligated to pay back their mega donors. This tax bill will do both while most of us will suffer the consequences.
Every concerned/outraged citizen needs to contact their representatives and shout/scream “NO.” And we need to do it now.
We all have already heard how this tax bill for the middle class would put at least a billion dollars into Trump’s family coffers while increasing taxes on the rest of us and cutting needed services. Now they also want to help the ultra wealthy with a tax break on their private jets.
This is how revolutions are spawned. I am just totally surprised that there has not been more outrage demonstrated at the perpatrators of this grasp for more wealth and power.
Here is another quick snapshot of what it looks like when leaders do not give a damn about representing the people they were elected to serve. This is outrageous. None of those moving for these cuts would be impacted by them as they have the best health benefits imaginable.
The only impact for them is an “attaboy” from the #BLOTUS and millions of dollars in campaign funds from the Koch brothers. This isn’t leadership. It’s our elected leaders “grabbing us by the…” It’s rape.
Anyone following this story who isn’t outraged isn’t paying attention.
This morning’s gospel reading is from the 11th chapter of Matthew. John the Baptist is in Herod’s dungeon. When he hears of what Jesus was doing, he sends his followers to ask him if he (Jesus), is the Messiah.
The answer Jesus gives to John’s followers is both simple and direct. There’s no mistaking the actions, or the values, of Jesus.
“Go and report to John what you hear and see: the blind receive sight and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.”
Look around you. The ones you see doing the works, and living the values of Jesus, are those who demonstrate an authentic Christian spirituality. You can see “Christian values.” They are centered on helping those most in need.
This chart is a good approximation of how our tax dollars are spent. One correction that needs to be made, however, is to add the Veterans’ Benefits into the Military Spending category.
The cost of caring for our Veterans is definitely a part of our Military expenses, and we need to calculate it as such. Doing so would mean that Military spending actually accounts for over 61% of our nation’s budget.
This number is far too high, and is just one more illustration of the misplaced values we hold. Our Military Spending is higher than the next five countries in the world combined. This is excessive to the point of being immoral. And this is especially shameful when one out of eight children in our country go hungry on a regular basis.
We need to cut our military spend to a maximum of 50% of the federal budget. That 11% savings could then go to eradicate hunger in our country with plenty left over to help restore our crumbling infrastructure and provide a higher quality education system.
I may be a little fuzzy on my math, but I think I might have a difference of opinion about where the budget deficit comes from. With the US already having a military budget larger than the next 5 countries in the world combined we might be overspending in that department by a couple billion dollars or so…but that’s just my opinion.
