For the past several months we have watched Presidential candidates tell lie after lie. Within hours we have seen these same candidates deny the lies, even when the lies have been recorded. I cannot be the only one that finds this frightening.
In a world of deceit and lies, telling the truth is an act of rebellion. We are approaching the time when we need such a revolution, a revolution where those of us who care band together to speak the truth, even if it means we have to pay a steep price.
The first steep is paying attention. We do not have to accept lies. We have the power to say no to leadership based on deceit. Wrong is wrong no matter how often we are told differently.
Pay attention. Refuse to be silent. Speak out for the truth. Facts are far more powerful than opinions. And evil cannot survive if we stand for the good.
What would our world look like if more of us had the special kind of courage lifted up by Queen Elizabeth? My fear is that far too many of us refuse to stand up for our convictions. We refuse to speak out for what we know is right, for what we know is the decent alternative.
We make the choice to be quiet, to remain silent in the face of immorality and evil. We allow those with power and riches to make choices and take actions that cause harm to millions of our human family and to rape our planet for greed and profit.
That could change if we had the special kind of courage spoken of by the queen. If we all stood up and made our voices heard we could have a world with justice for all and not just for the rich and powerful. But, that takes a special kind of courage.
We can change the world. We can create a world where there is justice for all, where peacefulness is a way of life and where all God’s children have a fair share of the world’s bounty. All it requires is for us to care enough to act on what we know is right. All of us know those who would benefit from our time and efforts on their behalf. All we have to do is care.
