harder than you think, but well worth the effort

Wouldn’t our world be a far better place for all our family if we could be consistently working toward such a simple goal? The ripples of grace and justice each of us could create would have an impact far beyond our imagination.

longer tables!

This Facebook post is a perfect illustration of my philosophy. Life is not about hording and keeping what we have received. Life in all its fullness only comes through being open and generous. Caring, sharing and giving makes life worthwhile.

A truly thankful heart is one that wants others the enjoy the same gifts we have received. Sharing, even a meager crust, is far better than eating a banquet alone. We don’t need thicker walls and taller fences. We need longer tables.

enough for us all…

We all want to help one another, Human beings are like that. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men's souls; has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. Earth has enough for our need, but not for our greed.:

The new Health Care Bill passed by the House  yesterday is yet another example of how power corrupts and the greed of the wealthy knows no limits. Our nation sees less justice with each passing day for the poor, the marginalized, and the powerless.

Those of us who identify with the least of these among us, those of us who try to live lives modeled after the man of Nazareth, know that the answer to injustice is love. And the more radical that love, the more effective it is at ripping through the lies of those in power.

Now is the time for us to demonstrate faithfulness to the Gospel in everything we do and say. Now is when we must not be silent, but speak the truth to those whose disregard for justice threatens those who need it most.

do something wonderful

Isn’t this our call as people of faith? We are to live in the love which has first been shown to us. Reflecting that love to others is what life is all about.

If we demonstrate Christ’s love to all those we meet (and the key word here is demonstrate), there are some who won’t understand, but there are others who will not only soak up that love but also share it.  Do something wonderful this week.  Do something that demonstrates the love that we call Emmanuel.

a prayer for Advent

This is Advent, the season of preparation. The shops are full of gifts that we might give or receive. Streets are decorated and choirs begin the rounds of community centres and retirement homes with their seasonal offerings of carols. As we prepare, we remember another, John the Baptist, who came to prepare the Jewish people for the arrival of Jesus. John, who would prepare a way through a call to repentance, so that hearts and souls would be ready to receive the One who was to come.

Father God, prepare our hearts not only for the celebration to come, but also for sharing that Good News with friends, family and work colleagues should opportunity arise. Grant us courage and a real willingness to talk about the love that came down to earth and walked among us. Amen

a good definition of theft

Amassing wealth is morally indefensible in a world where poverty and hunger still stalks millions. Why do we still respect and look up to those who flaunt their wealth with lavish lifestyles when sharing that wealth could be saving countless lives?

Justice in today’s world means sharing with those in need, caring for those suffering, and living as a global family. Amassing wealth is just the opposite.

when we don’t share

"Poverty is not made by GOD, it is created by you and me when we don't share what we have." - Mother Teresa #inspiration #positive #words:

GLOBAL GRAFFITI

Hunger is an obscenity,
a four-letter word
scrawled across the lives of millions
by those of who don’t see well enough to care
or love deeply enough to share.

joy unspeakable and full of glory

The words of Picasso ring true for me. I believe every single one of us are born as unique and gifted individuals. Each of us have a special gift that we can and should share to make the world a better place.

True joy is when we are finally able to recognize that gift and begin sharing it. It is in the giving of our gift that we begin growing into our full humanity.
