getting enough…

JFortson

There is a power in simplicity. Living more simply not only honors our home, it demonstrates that we care for others and know the necessity and the joy of sharing the world’s finite resources. At its heart, living more simply is deeply spiritual.

we cannot be satisfied…

Poverty exists because we lack  community. There is no true sense of all being part of one family serving and caring for one another. Those of us with more of the world’s resources than we need refuse to share the life-saving necessities with brothers and sisters who are daily dying for their lack of what we waste.

So true

I have posted this quote in the distant past, but sometimes we all just need a little reminder. God created our world perfectly. That means there is truly enough for all. The secret is sharing instead of hoarding…and yes, it really is that simple.

longer tables!

This Facebook post is a perfect illustration of my philosophy. Life is not about hording and keeping what we have received. Life in all its fullness only comes through being open and generous. Caring, sharing and giving makes life worthwhile.

A truly thankful heart is one that wants others the enjoy the same gifts we have received. Sharing, even a meager crust, is far better than eating a banquet alone. We don’t need thicker walls and taller fences. We need longer tables.

enough for us all…

We all want to help one another, Human beings are like that. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men's souls; has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. Earth has enough for our need, but not for our greed.:

The new Health Care Bill passed by the House  yesterday is yet another example of how power corrupts and the greed of the wealthy knows no limits. Our nation sees less justice with each passing day for the poor, the marginalized, and the powerless.

Those of us who identify with the least of these among us, those of us who try to live lives modeled after the man of Nazareth, know that the answer to injustice is love. And the more radical that love, the more effective it is at ripping through the lies of those in power.

Now is the time for us to demonstrate faithfulness to the Gospel in everything we do and say. Now is when we must not be silent, but speak the truth to those whose disregard for justice threatens those who need it most.

do something wonderful

Isn’t this our call as people of faith? We are to live in the love which has first been shown to us. Reflecting that love to others is what life is all about.

If we demonstrate Christ’s love to all those we meet (and the key word here is demonstrate), there are some who won’t understand, but there are others who will not only soak up that love but also share it.  Do something wonderful this week.  Do something that demonstrates the love that we call Emmanuel.
