an uncertain future

Photo published for A Record 65.6 Million People Displaced Worldwide: UNHCR

The United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) has just announced that there are over 65,000,000 refugees that have fled their homeland. That’s the highest number in history. Over 12,000,000 of these refugees are from one country, Syria.

At issue is not only their future, but the future of the world. How this part of our human family is received, how they are treated, and how they are accepted will determine not only what will ultimately happen to them, but exactly who we are and the values we truly espouse.

I have watched families fleeing their burning homes while dodging sniper fire. I have had the privilege to visit dozens of refugee camps andĀ camps for the internally displaced, and have seen firsthand the fear, the anguish and the heartbreak of those driven from their homes.

In the end, it boils down to opening our arms to others in need, even as we would hope arms would be opened to our families if in the same tragic circumstances. We cannot go too far wrong just hewing as closely as possible to the Golden Rule.

hero of hope

Most of us will never be in a position to give $11 million to help those in need. But everyone of us can provide hope to someone. We can all be heroes of hope. There are thousands, even millions, of ways to demonstrate the love of God to those around us. A word of encouragement can change a person’s life forever.

Helping our neighbors begins with caring enough to act. Kindness is in short supply these days. Smile more, and look for opportunities to put love into action. Providing hope for even one person is helping nudge the world in the right direction.

Become a hero of hope. The world needs more heroes.

DON'T KEEP CALM - The 3 Most Important Questions To Ask Yourself Every Day: Have you loved fully? Have you lived fully? Have you made a difference??:

Today is my 70th birthday. I realize that at my age I neither have the time nor the inclination to remain calm while I look about me and see our beautiful world being systematically destroyed and my nation going to hell in a hack. It’s time to join together with like-minded people and change the world.

in your hands

This has always been true. Each of us has the glorious opportunity to create the world we want. We can make a difference in the lives of thousands, even millions who live in crushing poverty and never escape the shadow of hunger,

Working together we can change the world forever. We can rewrite history. We can become a part of a global movement that truly ends hunger in our lifetime. This is my goal. And it’s always been the vision that drives Stop Hunger Now. Join with me and let’s create a better and more just world for all.

a heart full of love

This has always been true. Now, however, it is becoming more critical than ever to both understand the importance of this, and to develop these assets to their fullest. Only by working together will we be able to make this world a place safe for all our human family.

my dirt is better than your dirt

Educated and rational folks need to remember this, especially in the coming days. The United States is a wonderful and blessed country. We all know that.

But we need to always remember that “God so loved the world…” Our nation, as blessed as it is, is no closer to God’s heart than any other.

There is a real likelyhood over the next couple of years that our leaders are going to attempt to stir up in us a sense of nationalism that will be both ugly and dangerous. When that happens we need to fight against a false patriotism and national pride that promotes our dirt is better that other peoples.
